Energy Leaks vs. Energy Blocks: What's Really Draining You?

As an energy healer, I am often in thought processes around energy blocks, relational patterns, what my environment is mirroring back to me… and on it goes. Energy healing is simply part of how I move through normal life.

I was thinking this morning as I made my breakfast, about plugging the holes in my life. I was pondering what's draining me, where the gaps are, and reflecting on how many changes I have made already that have made noticeable difference.

Then the thought arrived, “What if some of the perceived"blocks" I have been focusing on, are not blocks at all? What if they are actually energy leaks, and I have been looking in the wrong place or at that wrong thing?”

Not even a full breath later, I knocked over a full glass of green juice that I had just prepared. It went everywhere!  A bright, vibrant green liquid, leaked across the counter, onto the floor and chair …

Talk about a confirmation!

I just stood there for a second, half laughing, while processing the depth of what just landed. Because that's exactly what a leak looks like, isn't it?

Not stuck or stagnant like a block.

But instead, moving and spreading.

Often only visible the second you finally pause, and look long enough to see it.

What's the Difference Between Energy Blocks and Energy Leaks?

In energy work, we talk a lot about blocks. Stuck or stagnant energy that needs to be released, broken through, or cleared. Then we pray for the shift we have been waiting for. And while we often get that shift, we sometimes find that there is yet another block to clear.

A block often announces itself …eventually.  It becomes the thing screaming for your attention when it starts causing frustration and dissatisfaction in some way.

And sometimes that's exactly right.

But lately I've been noticing that sometimes a "block" is the wrong focus for some of what's actually happening in our lives.  A block is static.  It just sits there, waiting for you to deal with it on your own time.

A leak, on the other hand, doesn't wait.

A leak is active and is happening right now, whether you're paying attention to it or not.  While you're busy looking for a block in one area, the leak is already draining you somewhere else.

That distinction matters more than it sounds like it should.

You don't fix a leak the way you fix a block.

You don't need a big breakthrough or a dramatic release.

You need to find where it's escaping … a.k.a… where you are leaking your own energy… and seal it!

One could also argue that a leak is just a block in disguise. But that's a rabbit hole for another day. 😉

Leak #1: The Energy You're Pouring Into the Wrong Thing

Here's something I've known and understood for a long time: whatever you focus on expands. You give it your attention, your worry, your energy,  and so it grows.

Health issues get louder.

Money problems get uglier.

Relationships get messier.

Why?? Because attention is energy, and energy moves where you point it.

You vote with your attention.

But here's the part that took me longer to see on a deeper level: a lot of the time, the thing you're staring at and trying so hard to fix isn't actually the problem.

It's the distraction.

It's the loud, squeaky wheel, that is easier to focus on than the quiet thing sitting just off to the side that hasn't been making much noise at all.

Maybe it doesn't get attention because it doesn't seem broken.

Maybe you've been quietly aware of it but keep putting it off, because you don't want to deal with it, or you genuinely don't know where to start.

But here is the thing… all that energy you're spending on the loud problem? It's actually leaking energy from you in real time, energy that you could have for something else more fulfilling.

It is not because the loud problem doesn't matter.

It is because you may be pouring far more into it than it actually needs.

You might also be keeping yourself distracted from what really needs your attention. This could actually be the thing you are avoiding that will create the greatest change.

Leak #2: The Thing You Haven't Faced Is Draining You Too

Here's the part that I got reminded of as I cleaned up all the green juice.

It's not just that your energy drains into the wrong places when you focus on a certain issue too much.

The unaddressed things in life are also leaking energy from you - at the same time!  Quietly, continuously, in the background, they will pull on your energy, as long as they go unfaced.

Just feel into something you have been avoiding ... can you feel that subtle, quiet pull??

That is the energy leak I am speaking of.

We tend to think of an avoided thing as neutral. Like it's just sitting there, paused, waiting patiently until we're "ready." But I believe it's costing you something the entire time. That low hum of fear, or dread, or low-grade tension that's always running in the background, is draining you of vital energy, whether you're consciously aware of it or not.

So when you think about it, you’re probably leaking this vital energy on two ends at once!

Energy is spilling into the loud distraction.

Energy is quietly draining you through the avoided thing itself.

Same root cause, but two leaks that are mostly invisible to you.

No wonder so many of us feel tired in a way that doesn't match how much we're actually “doing." And so many people feel they do not have the capacity to deal with things that they know they need to address.

Signs You Might Have an Energy Leak

Most of us have no idea how much of our daily energy quietly drains away through things we've stopped even noticing. Are you not sure if what you're feeling is an energy leak, or just a lower vibration day?

Here are a few ways leaks tend to show up:

  • You feel tired and have low energy,  in a way that doesn't match what you actually did that day.

  • You finish something you used to enjoy, and instead of feeling full, you feel oddly flat, or even more drained than before you started.

  • A certain person, place, or topic crosses your mind, and you feel a small, almost involuntary tightening, a sinking feeling, or a dread, before you've even consciously thought about why.

  • You catch yourself avoiding a conversation, a room in your house, an email, or a decision. Not because it's urgent, but because some part of you already knows it will cost you something to go there.

  • You feel "behind" or restless, even when your to-do list is technically done.

  • There's something that's been nagging at you, incomplete, for months or even years, sitting in a closet, a drawer, an inbox. Think about your clutter here as well.

  • An old resentment you've stopped consciously thinking about, but still carry.

  • A commitment you keep showing up for out of guilt, long after it stopped being a real "yes."

  • You go on social media, get sucked in, and come out the other side feeling empty or tired — regretting the time spent. Posting or scrolling … it's all the same drain.

None of these are dramatic. That's exactly why they keep leaking. They hide in plain sight, in the things you've simply stopped registering as a cost. They are quiet, steady, and taking a little more from you than you're getting back, often siphoning energy from somewhere else in your life that could use it more.

How Do I Fix an Energy Leak?

I'm not going to tell you to go fix everything today.

The invitation here is simple: just notice.

Without trying to fix a single thing, see if each day you can catch the moments where your energy is quietly draining.   Not just from the big, loud problems you already know about, but from the places you've stopped paying attention to entirely.

From here, you can start making adjustments, small or big ones. It is not usually hard to do.

You might be surprised what you find sitting just off to the side, in vibrant green, the moment you finally pause long enough to look.  You might be even more pleased about what shifts when you make the changes to seal the leaks.

If you're sensing leaks or blocks that you can't quite locate on your own, or that are demanding more of you than you like to admit,  that's exactly where the support I offer helps. If you're in Kelowna (or anywhere) and want a hand with it, I'd be happy to help.

Leaks or blocks, and anything in between, are all welcome in this space.
